SJHA Students Attend Girls Build LA Summit

On Friday, September 28, 2018 nearly ten thousand young women from the Los Angeles area met at the Girls Build Summit to discuss the need for their vote in the next election and POWER of their collective voice. LA Promise Fund presented an array of empowered individuals beginning with first generation Latino California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and two Parkland, FL youth survivors/activists. Shonda Rhimes was an amazing keynote speaker, and the program concluded with a concert by the artist Daya. SJHA was fortunate to take forty-five juniors and seniors, and understand the urgency for them to be active civic agents in our country. ” “Seeing other women from our community stand up and voice their needs was inspiring and motivating for me to make a change for the better.” (Jasmine Pelayo, 11th grade)
